India Karnataka Plantation Peaberry

India Karnataka Plantation Peaberry

Karnataka is a state in the south of India, and is also the name of the group who sources this coffee. They work with plantation farmers throughout the state, and this lot represents coffee mostly from Chickmagaluru, which sits at the base of the stunning Mullayanagiri mountain range,  This is a peaberry selection; normally coffee beans grow two to a fruit, flat against each other like halves of a peanut.  But a funny thing happens in about 5% of the world's coffee, they are born with out a 'partner', which requires farmers to 'hand-pick' the peaberry beans.  Many believe that peaberry coffee tastes intensified.  Our roast is a medium body, with licorice, caramel, and black tea up-front, and hints of tobacco to finish.

This coffee is part of the 'Farm Gate' program from our friends at The Coffee Shrub, which means they have negotiated directly with the farmer, and guarantee prices that are at least 50%, and often more than 100%, over fair trade.
