El Salvador La Esperanza SWP Decaf

El Salvador La Esperanza SWP Decaf

La Esperanza borders on El Boqueron National Park, a majestic natural forest that is home to a multitude of wildlife, and a main feature of San Salvador’s volcano crater. The farm is broken into several plots, most with intermixing of Arabigo (Typica) and Bourbon. La Esperanza benefits from being able to hire the same group of pickers each harvest, who know the farm well, and know which cherries are ripe enough to pick. This coffee was processed by Swiss Water Decaf in Vancouver, BC, where they employ a chemical free water decaffeination process that retains much of the original coffee character.

Bittersweet smells set the tone in the dry fragrance of this decaf. The cup flavors follow suit, with a rich, bittersweet cocoa powder flavor tied up with brown sugar hints, and a roasted wheat berry note. The dark cacao core melts away as the coffee cools, ushering in a dark caramel sweetness.

This coffee is part of the 'Farm Gate' program from our friends at The Coffee Shrub, which means they have negotiated directly with the farmer, and guarantee prices that are at least 50%, and often more than 100%, over fair trade.
