Sumatra Gayo Lues Cike

Sumatra Gayo Lues Cike

The Gayo Lues lot is a blend of small producer's coffees from the Kerinci, Jambi district.  In this system, farmers sell to a local collector, who determines the coffee quality.  A good collector buys coffees direct, such as in this relationship, rather than in the local village, where quality can suffer.  The altitude in the region ranges from 1300 - 1500 meters, and the coffee is dried for hours on tarps or concrete, sold to the coffee collectors, and then transported to their mill and warehouse facility where it will be processed and stored until time of export.  It's a long journey ... but it's worth it, as the best Sumatran coffees are some of the most complex coffees we carry.  Our roast is full-body, with earthy, dark, berry notes.  You can taste peat/tobacco in the finish.

This coffee is part of the 'Farm Gate' program from our friends at The Coffee Shrub, which means they have negotiated directly with the farmer, and guarantee prices that are at least 50%, and often more than 100%, over fair trade.
